Micro-needling
About
Microneedling is a popular, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that can help improve the appearance of acne scars, dark pigmentation, uneven skin texture, large pores, wrinkles, and fine lines.
It is less expensive that laser treatment and can work more effectively for people with darker skin as there is no heat involved in the treatment. Dr Mittal will advise you about the best treatment for your skin type.
Process
During microneedling, a device with fine needles is used to create tiny punctures in the epidermal layer of the skin. This process stimulates the skin's natural healing process, resulting in increased collagen production and improved skin texture.
Microneedling can be effective in reducing the appearance of:
1. Atrophic scars: these are pitted scars that result from loss of collagen during the healing process of acne.
2. Hyperpigmentation: dark spots that can occur after acne breakouts or sun-damage.
3. Uneven skin texture: microneedling can help smooth out rough skin texture caused by acne scars.
4. Fine lines and wrinkles: the collagen boosting effect of microneedling can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The procedure usually takes around 10-20 minutes, depending upon the size of the area that is to be treated.
After care
After treatment you should wash your hands before you touch your face and avoid makeup for at least 24 hours. Also avoid any places where you might sweat heavily, such as gyms and saunas.
Microneedling should only be performed by a trained professional, such as Dr Mittal, to ensure safety and optimal results. Multiple sessions may be necessary to see significant improvement in acne scars, and post-treatment care, such as sun protection and skincare, is essential for best results.
