As we age our cheeks are prone to losing volume, causing them to sink and make you look older but with the aid of dermal fillers we can achieve more volume and defined cheek bone.
Cheeks are an important part of the face and as we age the structures of our face change including the underlying support – skull, muscles and fat – which causes the face to shrink in some places, fat and muscle to descend with gravity and skin to become thinner and less elastic. Without cheek volume the face no longer has its natural youthful curves and skin can sag around the chin area (jowls) and around the corner of the nose to the mouth (nasolabial lines) as well as causing eye bags and hollows. Cheek volume loss can be caused by ageing or weight loss and some patients who are naturally slim may not have had plump cheeks from childhood.
High cheek bones are considered the height of beauty and this treatment will restore volume lost to the sagging cheek and lift and restore support to the cheek area. By targeting the cheeks the contours of the patients face will become more defined, reducing the jowls area and lifting the jawline. The youthful facial V shape will be recreated and correct any facial asymmetry giving the patient a softer and more uplifted appearance.
This treatment is suitable for older patients who have lost the volume in their cheeks as well as younger patients who either wish to enhance their cheek proportions or create a more balanced profile.
*Patients experiences will vary dependent on age, lifestyle and medical history
The procedure will take between 30 and 45 minutes after an initial consultation to discuss your requirements, suitability and what you are hoping to achieve from having the treatment. Numbing cream is applied to the areas being treated prior to the procedure and then your face will be marked ready for the procedure.
To achieve the youthful appearance on an ‘upside down’ triangle, Dr Mittal will inject a dermal filler (hyaluronic acid*) into the area above the cheek bone in three areas as seen below, the to restore support and volume to the cheek area. This in turn assists in filling the hollows or sagging skin on fat pads of the cheek to give a balanced facial shape and more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

The procedure is safe, pain-free, quick and effective and results can be seen immediately, but will take a little while to settle. You can return to work immediately. The side effects vary from patient to patient but can include mild swelling and soreness and some bruising, which can be a normal reaction to injections. Some patients experience itching and tenderness but all of these symptoms disappear within ten days of the procedure.
The results of treatment will last for between 6 and 18 months dependent on individuals’ requirements, amount of the product used and how well a patient reacts to the treatment. Dr Prerna Mittal advises that you sleep on your back for the first three nights, avoid strenuous exercise for four to six hours, do not touch your face or apply make-up after the treatment.
