If your chin is out of proportion, then it can throw out the balance of the rest of your natural features.  A recessed chin may not provide enough structure to create a visual distinction between the face and the neck and a small chin can make the nose appear larger. A well-defined chin creates a balance between the nose, neck and cheeks. In some patients it can cause the upper lip to protrude and often the neck and the chin become one. This can cause a patient to be self conscious and in turn lead to a lack of self confidence.

Undefined chins are often genetic but in some cases can be the result of ageing or an accident during your lifetime. These changes occur in both men and women but women experience a greater bone loss particularly after menopause and so the face shape changes are greater with the lower face shrinking and the mid face getting heavier, which can make the skin appear sunken, loose and/or sagging as the soft tissue is no longer being supported by the jaw.

*Patients experiences will vary dependent on age, lifestyle and medical history

To discuss your treatment you will need to book a consultation with Dr Mittal, where she will discuss your requirements, suitability, any risks and complications for a chin filler. Once you have agreed your treatment plan with Dr Mittal, on the day of your procedure numbing cream can be applied but many dermal fillers already contain a small amount of lidocaine to assist with any pain management.

Dermal fillers are injected in different parts and layers of the chin, depending on where each person’s weaknesses are and can help to reconstruct the chin area, lift the sagging skin and in general make the skin appear more rejuvenated and youthful. The treatment will take between 15 and 30 minutes and the majority of patients do not feel any pain.

Chin fillers are perfect for any patient wishing to give the chin more definition which in turn makes the patient appear more in balance with the rest of their face. Facial proportions will be improved as sunken areas will be filled in due to an improvement in elasticity, the jowls lifted and wrinkles reduced giving a rejuvenated appearance and definition between the neck and chin.

Results can be seem immediately after treatment but there may be some swelling and bruising present so the patient may need up to 14 days for the dermal filler to fully integrate within the skin’s tissues and give a the final more natural appearance.

Dermal chin fillers can last between 15 and 24 months and you will need to return for top-up treatments depending on how long it lasts for you, as all patients vary.

Most patients do not suffer from too much discomfort after chin fillers as you may experience some swelling and redness, often associated with having an injection, Dr Prerna Mittal advises that you do not undertake strenuous exercise for a least a day, avoid applying make-up and do not touch your face during this time.

Dr Prerna Mittal will discuss the options with you at your consultation as treatments vary according to the patient, the number of procedures you are having, the brand and how much is required.
